It's Easter and the locals are ready to paint the town pink!
The town of Eastervale is getting ready to celebrate its annual Easter egg hunt. The baskets are ready, the parade floats are built, and the townsfolk are jumping with joy.
Jackie London is not one of them. For her, the town's event is just another boring-ass chapter in her life, a life already made difficult after her mother's abandonment and her father's attempt at juggling both roles.
However, this year, an uninvited guest is hopping in to join the fun, and anyone who receives an egg from this bunny will die...
Overall, this was a massively enjoyable story. The early detail here gives us a great look at the town and its connection to the holiday, involving how they raise children around the various celebrations, featuring the residents around them, the constant source of decorations and preparations for a massive Easter holiday, and the lives of the citizens as they get ready for these upcoming festivities. It’s incredibly fun to see these play out with the kind of atmosphere that paints this as a quirky little town that takes the celebrations quite seriously, so that the different characters have a great playground to work with.
This is utilized rather nicely with the intertwining storylines about the daughter being so psychologically unhinged about her old friend trying to show romantic interest in her, while the rest of the town is struck with the rising body count taking place, leading up to the reveal of the killer being a killer rabbit going around leaving decorative Easter eggs at the crime scene. These are pretty tense in their setup and bloody in their execution, bringing about some immensely likable factors. It feels a bit too short and could’ve expanded upon some of the characters a bit more, but as a whole, there’s a lot to like here.
