Cannibal Cruise by Jerry Blaze

The cruise ship Triton is taking wealthy passengers on a voyage to visit the Isle de Loro, an island with an ancient culture and archaeological site for digging up treasures. Everyone settles in for a fun vacation from their busy lives. However, they quickly learn that the island's tribe has reached its breaking point and has set out to fight against the tourists. Soon, the cannibal warriors will face off against the tourists, and there will be loads of gore all over the ship!

This was an immensely effective and enjoyable novella.  The simple setup, involving how the group gets to the island, goes about discovering the mess left behind by the tribe, and how everything starts getting turned on its head, gives this a strong starting point with a lot to like about it. This gives us a fun time exploring the passengers in brief spurts, getting to know the tourists and the staff just enough before everything comes together with the final half of the cannibals going crazy, slaughtering everyone. With the tribe operating in both sneak ambushes, like the suspense-driven sequences of them taking over the boat against their knowledge, or the scenes of full-on battles taking place where they try to defend themselves, there’s a fun sense to this one that builds from the main setup.

This comes off even better with the whole thing being a fast-paced style that packs a solid touch. Focusing on getting the details of their characterization and action to the point that the vivid and graphic details of their numerous graphic kills and dismemberments that are utilized to showcase the violent nature of the tribe going through their revenge-based rampage, the shorter reading time comes about to provide a fun time. Some of the action here is a bit unbelievable, especially once the tribe has commandeered the ship and is demanding to be left alone from humanity afterward, but it’s all in service of the storyline here that feels rather fun, even with the brief reading time being obvious enough.
