Collection: Hotel Macabre Vol.2: Tales of Horror

Step inside for another unforgettable stay in Hotel Macabre Vol. 2, a groundbreaking horror anthology where short stories, novellas, poetry, flash fiction, a dramatic reading, and even comics collide to create a dark literary experience like no other.

Featuring some of horror’s most celebrated voices—Graham Masterton, Nick Roberts, Ramsey Campbell, Gwendolyn Kiste, Jasper Bark, John Durgin, Viggy Parr Hampton, Gage Greenwood, Kyle Toucher, Tom Deady, Robert Ford, Alison Littlewood, John Ward, Jamal Hodge, Leigh Kenny, Jay Bechtol, Karolina Mogielska, Jonathan Gensler, S. C. Fisher, Larry Hinkle, Ben Eads, Matthew Mercier, and Mike Deady—this collection blurs the boundaries between traditional and experimental horror. Includes an introduction by the Bram Stoker Award-winning editor/publisher Joe Mynhardt.

Overall, this was a really solid and enjoyable collection. The fact that there’s a wide roster of writers that provide this with a wide variety of topics and themes in the stories, ranging from a unique take on vampire lore, a visit to a run-down amusement park, a trip interrupted by a phantom car following them, a medieval werewolf tale, and a social media challenge about listening to a special song sets off a deadly crime spree among much others. This special series of varied storylines sets everything up to allow their respective voices to carry the stories along, letting the stories go from campy to slow-burning to slow-creeping dread, giving us a solid turn to match the tone of the collection as a whole. That the majority of the stories range from the enjoyable to the above-average without creating that standout story, especially in a collection with this much content that registers two-dozen entries, is a slight detriment might be had here, but on the whole, this is a strong collection.
